Chuck de India

Here is something , I would like to share with you guys. Its about our national game , HOCKEY ! As I was going through today's news bulletins, I came across this :-

http://www.hindustantimes.com/rssfeed/hockey/Hockey-players-to-continue-with-strike-again-from-today/Article1-495947.aspx

A nation where legend like Dhyan Chand is born, who is regarded as the greatest players of all time in the whole wide world, who have made this country proud. Its this day where the players who proudely hold the 'stick', which he used to carry have to beg from the authorities for salaries.

This doesn't happen with games like cricket, I ask why ? Why such kind of discrimination is going on ? And this with our own national game !

Am I protesting ? May be ! May be not ! But the point I want to make is that no sport or games whether it is indoor or outddor, should be discriminated. All should be treated equally. Yes, I am not denying cricket is a popular game and is thus given more media coverage. As far as I think the least can be done is that other sports & there players should not be abused like this, that they are forced to take a major step like not to play for their own country.

If we still don't change, then we shouldn't complain about not winning GOLD as well !

Twitting Times

As I read & hear a lot of people using Twitter these day, I also felt a bit attracted towards the idea of using it. As I go through the same old procedure of registering with it,as we do with other networking sites, more the blanks i fill, more the butterflies fluttered in my stomach.I felt so excited just by the thought of getting to use it.

As I sit in front of my PC gazing at my newly open account ready to 'fly in the web-sky' & start its 'tweeting'. I add some near & famous people like KJ & SRK ! YES SRK ! ,  in my 'follow list' & went through their own 'tweets'; we call them status, if we use facebook. As I go through their tweets & find some interesting ones to comment on. I click on 'Reply' option & after the '@authors name' appears in the top blank region, I observe a countdown going on as I write my message, beginning from 140.For my amazement I had only 140 characters ( letters & SPACES ! ), to write my message. And that 140 even includes '@authors name'  ......a bit less ! I found it to be an unappropriately small numerical given to write your message down.

This made me realise that twitter fails when someone needs to express something in more than 140 characters. And it made me wonder that why Jack Dorsey only put 140 characters, why not 150 ?..looks quite random !?! was there any reason ?

Another feature which I think where twitter lags behind is when author needs to know the replys they received for their tweets. When followers reply to the tweets of the author, how is the author going to read all the replys sent to them ? I find it much better in case of facebook, where friend (followers in twitter) can type their comment just below the author's status and the all the comments & suggestions can be read easily, whereas in twitter, the only way, which i found one can know the replys sent to the author is by typing '@author's name' in the search box and you will get all the comments for that person. Isn't it weird ? strange ?

Well, that's what I think ! What do you guys think ?

May be we all can share something with each other & make twitter worth it ! Add me '@rishgworld' on twitter !

Mahabharata, an Inspiration

Hi Everyone !

Its the first time I am writing a blog and thus might end up making some/many mistakes. So ALLOW ME !

Me being a international student at Brunel University, have to work, which I really don't mind (well as they say-beggars can't be choosy !). Therefore, I hardly get any time off for myself.
Also being in the 3rd year of a Maths degree, is the toughest time of ones life ! Most of the time I with my uncle helping him out to run his business & supervise at his construction site. And the rest of the time, which I get is spent in either on facebook ( stalking people's profiles & sending anonymous friends request ! ) or day dreaming ( that's my source of inspiration ! lol ).
Well ! as the beginning of the year 2010 came, I huriedly started working on my dissertation (or trying to). When I really really got exhaustedly frustrated with it. I started looking for something in the pile of comics, to calm the 'insane fire' of my mind. And took out MAHABHARATA, which as people say is the longest epic novel ever written in the human race, which tells the tale of two families of the same kingdom in ancient India, fighting themselves for the throne of Bharata (India).
As I started reading it and got involved with it for some hours, I realized the kind of problems & challenges a person face in his life had already been expressed in it with the justification of the answers to ones dilemmas ! I was quite amazed by the similarities between the society, government, laws & order and daily life of that era & today's were, as they were described in it.
Leaving it half read and bringing my mind back to my coursework, I began working on it as the lesson I learnt from the unfinished novel was :-

KARMA IS THE VIRTUE OF A MAN !
